The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on recently.

Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on late November.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor stated further: "This year his stepchild had worries about the activities, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated items including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained the defendant continued to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she continued.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the family member contacted the law enforcement a second time.

She explained Ruben then played the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
